Not only do they get paid well. They also have awesome insurance benefits and great retirement plant. I don’t know what the unions are complaining about.

And Washington voted to shut down the successful voucher program in D.C. because the public school teachers were loosing their kids to private schools.
It’s all about the unions and making them happy. Because if you make them happy, you get elected again.Screw the kids

Another thing, if you want to talk about fuel efficiency. The Toyota Highlander only gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The same can be said for the Suzuki XL7. My 5.7 liter (6 speed manual) gets 18 in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Still with a bigger engine it is not bad gas milage. You mentioned “GM sucks” I think you should take a look at your fuel cost before making that asumption. It looks that it may be the other way around.

Yeah, right now I think that even if GM did come out with a better car for a better price no one would buy it, because they have bad name recognition. GM no longer has a good reputation, good car companies like Honda and Toyota have gone into overdrive because their name recognition from 10-15 years ago is going into the decision process of buying cars now. I have a friend with a 1994 Honda with 200k and it’s in better shape than my 1995 Dodge Avenger with 40k.

The American companies also spend a lot of money on retired workers. So why pay 24,000 for an American car, when you can get a Honda that is equal or better for 21,000 dollars.

american vehicles were AMONG the best around. The companies are failing for many reasons, the biggest being that they pay their employees so well.
Remember when all the U.S. auto makers did employee pricing? None of the japanese or european dealers did that because their employees didn’t get discounts.
Sure some american cars ****… so did plenty of foreign cars… The fact is there are plenty of great used cars on the road, thats why nobody is buying new ones.
