Need to file bankruptcy in Virginia but I want to keep my personal assets out of it.?
I am currently enrolled in a debt mgmt program and cannot make the payments any longer. My house and land is valued at ,000 and I have very little personal assets. Does anyone know which chapter would be right for me? Is there somewhere I could call to get legal advice on this (I have VERY little money to pay a lawyer)? Where can I find the stipulations for bankruptcy in Virginia? Thanks
I also run my own business from home.

I’m posting a link of what personal assets are exempt in bankruptcy in Virginia.
You will need to make an appointment with a bankruptcy attorney. Most of them will do an initial consultation free. However, they all charge for their services eventually and they all want their fee up front, naturally, since you about to get all your bills written off. But your best bet will be to make an appointment and find out what your options are.
Also, under the new bankruptcy laws, you’ll be required to go to credit counseling by a Department of Justice approved credit counselor. I’m posting the DOJ weblink of who has been approved by the bankruptcy courts in Virginia. You might also ask the bankruptcy attorney who he recommends. Credit counseling in mandetory though.
I found some good info here.
Yes! I can help you get legal help for very, very little.
